Wake Up Escondido
You probably have heard of Nashville Hot Chicken. It’s a craze in Tennessee and spreading to other states too. It was while we were thinking about this tasty sandwich that Hoff & Pepper contacted us about possibly partnering up. Hoff & Pepper is a Chattanooga, Tennessee-based small-batch, craft hot sauce maker. What a great coincidence. We are a small, mom and pop place and so are they. They don’t mess around with chemicals or preservatives in their hot sauces and we feel the same way about our food.
We tried several of their sauces and singled out Hoff Sauce as our favorite. While it’s a simple six-ingredient sauce, it has gained national recognition, including first place at the New York City Hot Sauce Expo. The sauce features red jalapeno and habanero chili peppers (harvested at small Chattanooga farms by Hoff & Pepper), which bring the perfect heat level, while chipotle peppers provides a smooth and smoky finish.
This newcomer starts like most of our yummy panini, with sourdough from Bread & Cie, a little butter, olive oil, and Italian seasoning, plus Parmesan cheese. Then we’ve got both Havarti and Muenster cheeses on the inside, melting around our oven-roasted, hand-pulled chicken, hard-cooked egg, plenty of Hoff Sauce, a dill pickle spear and a pinch of spring greens.
It’s a bit spicy but not overpowering. The pickles cut through for some added bite. And the chicken and egg give you plenty of protein and flavor.
Our new Wake Up Escondido breakfast sandwich officially debuts Monday, February 3, 2020. A full sandwich is $13.50 while the half sandwich is $7.
